Maltreated OFW rescued in Kuwait

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine embassy in Kuwait has rescued an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) allegedly maltreated by her employers.

The migrant worker is now “safe and sound” at the Philippine embassy and would be repatriated when quarantine restrictions are lifted, according to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Brigido Dulay.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. earlier directed officials to act on the report he received on social media.

Based on the report he posted on Twitter, the migrant worker was supposedly beaten by her employers, fed only once a day and had her phone and passport taken away from her.

“They broke two billiard sticks on her back and rubbed salt on it. I had to take her home,” wrote Locsin.
