Amok shot dead after killing 6 in Samar
MANILA, Philippines — A former soldier was shot dead by police officers who responded to reports that he went amuck and killed six persons and wounded two others in Barangay Gadgaran in Calbayog City, Samar on Tuesday night.
Glenn Balonan was declared dead on arrival at the Calbayog District Hospital, Lt. Col. Neil Montano, city police chief, said.
Montano said Leopoldo Molat, 64, a resident of Barangay San Policarpo, died at the scene.
Carlo Saldania, 28 Garry Saldania, 34; Jimmy Jadulco, 45; Vicente Lozano, 66, and Jalita Ramada were declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
Humphrey Tacaldo, 54, and Janine Barreto remain confined in a hospital.
Balonan reportedly went amuck following an argument with Tacaldo during a drinking spree.
Police said Balonan was formerly with the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. He was dismissed from the service after he went absent without official leave.
Balonan was also a former bodyguard of a town mayor in Samar.
