LAGUNA, Philippines — Three persons died and another was hospitalized after they drank coconut wine or lambanog in Los Baños in this province on Saturday.

Christian Macasinag, 34, died at home, while Analyn Jubilo, 31, and Regino Lapitan, 47, died while being treated in a hospital.

The victims’ companion, Cornelio Tandang, 56, was also brought to the same hospital for treatment.

Police were informed of the incident only on Sunday afternoon.

Initial investigation showed the victims, along with four other friends, had a drinking session at the house of Macasinag’s uncle in Barangay Maahas at around 3 a.m.

The victims reportedly suffered abdominal pains, and nausea after drinking coconut wine bought from two variety stores reportedly owned by Rodel Valdez, 36, and Dary Remegio, 40.

Investigation is ongoing.

Last year, eight persons died and 60 others were hospitalized in Laguna and Quezon province due to lambanog poisoning.
