MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday destroyed two shipping containers of smuggled cigarettes amounting to P37 million.
BOC Associate Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla said the shipments arrived at the Port of Manila on April 27 and May 1.
The smuggled cigarettes reportedly came from China.
The cigarettes were crushed by a payloader to ensure that these would no longer be recycled and sold in the market.
The BOC also destroyed 2,183 mastercases of confiscated cigarettes worth P109 million that arrived in the country since 2018.
