MANILA, Philippines — A model and former beauty queen was arrested by police along with her partner for allegedly violating quarantine rules in Moalboal, Cebu on Sunday.
Maria Gigante and Javier Castro were reportedly caught swimming at the Panagsama Beach in Barangay Basdiot at around 5:30 p.m., according to Col. Rhoderick Mariano, Cebu police director.
Gigante and her companion also reportedly engaged in a drinking spree.
A liquor ban has been imposed in the province in connection with the enhanced community quarantine.
Before they were apprehended, Gigante and Castro had driven to Alegria town in a car that was pulled over at a quarantine checkpoint.
They were allowed to pass after they reportedly told the officers that they were going to distribute relief goods in Alegria.
The officers reportedly instructed them to proceed directly to their destination.
“Instead of following the instruction, they roamed around until they settled on a beach resort in Moalboal,” Mariano said in a text message to The STAR.
Gigante and Castro were brought to the police station for investigation.
