MANILA, Philippines — A man believed to be involved in illegal drug trade died in what police said was a shootout in Taguig on Sunday night.
Louie Jo Ong died at the scene from gunshots to the body. His cohort, Kevin Jake Camayang, was nabbed by police.
Anti-narcotics operatives said they launched a sting against Ong and Camayang at the parking lot of a mall in Barangay Ususan after receiving information that suspects were allegedly pushing drugs.
When the suspects sensed that they were dealing with police, the two fled in a car, prompting authorities to give chase.
Police said they recovered from the suspects around 100 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P680,000, a .38-caliber handgun, cell phones, the marked money and a Honda Civic car reportedly used by the suspects in the drug trade.
Four other drug suspects were apprehended by police along Gen. Natividad street in Barangay Palingon. They were Eduardo Sanga, 39; Allan Sanga, 33; Garry Mabansag, and Rogelio Lobendino, 54.
The suspects allegedly sold shabu for P200 to a policeman who posed as a buyer.
