Vintage bomb unearthed at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A vintage bomb believed to have been used during World War II was discovered at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Wednesday afternoon.

The explosive was dug up at a construction site along the runway of NAIA Terminal 3 at around 3 p.m., according to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) operations chief Ric Medalla.

Medalla said a worker was working on runway lights when he found the bomb.

The bomb was turned over to the Aviation Security Group of the Philippine National Police.

Last month, a vintage bomb was found in the area, where the Philippine Air Force was previously located.

MIAA general manager Ed Monreal ordered the airport security to locate more vintage bombs near the airport.
