MANDALUYONG, Philippines — Mandaluyong will place another barangay under total lockdown following a surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the area, the city government said yesterday.

This came after the city’s epidemiology and surveillance unit recommended the lockdown of Barangay Mauway after recording 61 confirmed cases, the highest number among the barangays in the city.

“It is expected that Barangay Mauway will be placed under total lockdown in the coming days,” the city’s public information office said, stressing that Mayor Menchie Abalos has met with barangay officials about the move.

The city government has yet to announce the date and guidelines for Barangay Mauway’s lockdown.

Meanwhile, the total lockdown of Barangay Addition Hills, also in Mandaluyong, begins today.

The lockdown – will cover the entire Welfareville Compound, including Nueve de Pebrero Interior to Correctional Road – will be enforced until 11:59 p.m. on May 13 in a bid to stop the rising number of cases in Addition Hills.

As of May 5, 57 confirmed cases were recorded in the barangay, which included 12 recoveries and six deaths.

Addition Hills also recorded at least 165 suspect cases, 50 of them cleared and 12 dead.

Abalos warned that violators of total lockdown protocols would be arrested and charged for violating Republic Act 11332 and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.

Mandaluyong has 423 confirmed cases city-wide.
