Chinoy group gets P35 million aid vs COVID
MANILA, Philippines — The Liwayway Group, the firm behind the Oishi brand, has donated P35 million worth of medical supplies to Chinese-Filipino non-government organization Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran Inc. (Kaisa) to help the Philippines’ fight against the coronavirus disease 2019.
Since last month, Kaisa has been delivering medical supplies to hospitals across the country through its “Kaisa Kontra Korona” project.
“We thank Carlos Chan, chairman of the Liwayway Group of Companies, for his assistance to our frontliners. Together, we can fight this pandemic,” Teresita Ang See, founding president of Kaisa, said.
Ang See said the donation would boost their capacity to help more hospitals.
Chan served as chairman of the Kaisa Heritage Foundation from 2016 to 2019.
The first batch of medical supplies, including 2,800 hazmat suits, arrived in Manila on April 17 from Shanghai through the help of the Philippine Airlines, Department of Trade and Industry and Philippine Chamber of Business and Professionals in Shanghai.
These will be distributed to 42 public hospitals through the efforts of Kaisa, TOWNS Foundation, UP Medical Foundation and the Philippine Navy.
