MANILA, Philippines — A medical officer of the Manila city government was killed on Wednesday after she was hit by a truck while biking home from frontline duty against the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
Dr. Maria Teresa Dajao was killed after the bicycle she was riding was rear-ended by a truck driven by Jeffrey Macayon along Quirino Avenue in Pandacan, Manila.
She did not die in a car crash, as previously reported.
“Dr. Dajao, with her significant contributions providing higher standard of health care services to Manilans, will be sorely missed by her colleagues and friends in the Manila Health Department,” Manila city health officer Arnold Pangan said in a statement.
Dajao was the physician-in-charge of the Kahilum Health Center since being appointed medical officer IV in 2006, the Manila health department said.
