Las Piñas cops secure supermarkets vs looters
LAS PIÑAS, Philippines — Following rumors of a plan to loot a Puregold supermarket in Las Piñas City, the city police will secure three of the chain’s outlets, an official said yesterday.
A user of social media site Reddit claimed that pedicab drivers were planning to loot the supermarket due to hunger after they lost their livelihood due to the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
Las Piñas police chief Col. Segundo Lagundi told The STAR that he will deploy police officers at three Puregold supermarkets in the city as they verify the report.
He said he would deploy a two-man mobile patrol be deployed around the clock and intelligence officers in civilian clothes to “apprehend those who may loot.”
On Wednesday, residents stormed the Las Piñas city hall to grab food packs being distributed by the city government.
City officials, led by Mayor Imelda Aguilar, yesterday appealed to citizens to wait for city personnel to deliver the food packs to their homes.
