Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines —  A ranking member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna on Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. of the 2nd Infantry Division withheld the identity of the surrenderee as part of the security protocol. The rebel returnee is said to be a former labor organizer.

The surrenderee is undergoing debriefing in preparation for his enrolment into the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Integration Program.

Burgos said the former rebel also turned over a caliber .38 revolver and a shotgun.

The surrenderee said groups with links to the NPA have infiltrated labor unions in Southern Tagalog.
