MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected robbers were killed in what police said was a shootout in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
Police said they have yet to identify the fatalities, who reportedly fought back when about to be arrested by lawmen at a vacant lot in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon at around 2:30 a.m.
Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, director of the Quezon City Police District, said the suspects robbed a delivery service crew of a fastfood restaurant along Quirino Highway in Barangay San Bartolome prior to the firefight.
The suspects took the victim’s cell phone, wallet and motorcycle before fleeing toward Barangay Novaliches Proper, Montejo said.
“The victim sought assistance from the Novaliches Police Station 4, which immediately conducted a follow-up operation,” he said.
Police said they recovered the victim’s personal belongings and two .38-caliber handguns from the suspects.
Meanwhile, a drug suspect was shot dead by police in Barangay Batasan Hills on Monday night.
Ibrahim Asula was on a motorcycle when he was accosted by policemen for not wearing a helmet.
When frisked, Asula allegedly yielded 12 sachets containing three grams of shabu worth P20,400.
The suspect reportedly pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and opened fire at policemen who retaliated, killing Asula at the scene.
