Joy Belmonte warns supplier of fake shoes
MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has vowed to go after suppliers of counterfeit products.
Belmonte issued the statement following reports that at least 1,000 pairs of alleged counterfeit rubber shoes were distributed to local athletes who will represent the city in national sporting events.
She said the city government would initiate legal action if the allegations are proven true.
“If proven guilty, the supplier of the fake shoes should be held liable,” Belmonte said in a statement.
The mayor has ordered the recall of the supposed counterfeit shoes.
The shoes will be replaced before March 14 in time for the holding of the National Festival of Talents in Isabela province and Palarong Pambansa in May.
Belmonte also instructed the bids and awards committee to exercise due diligence in evaluating and selecting winning bidders of the city government’s supplies.
