MANILA, Philippines — A farmer died after drinking lambanog (coconut wine) in Pagbilao, Quezon on Sunday.
Alvin Luna died while being treated at the Tayabas Community Hospital at around 12:45 p.m.
Doctors said Luna died of respiratory failure due to methanol toxicity.
A police report said Luna complained of numbness and difficulty breathing after he and his cousin consumed three bottles of lambanog and brandy.
Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, Calabarzon police director, ordered an inspection of stores selling lambanog in the area.
Last year, 22 people died due to lambanog poisoning in Calabarzon.
