Man on drug watchlist shot dead
MANILA, Philippines — A man on the drug watchlist of the Quezon City police was gunned down by an unidentified assailant before dawn yesterday.
Fortunato Cagul, 40, was manning a bakeshop along Villongco street in Barangay Commonwealth when the assailant fired at him at around 2:10 a.m.
Capt. Rohaina Asalan, spokesperson for the Quezon City Police District, said a witness heard successive gunshots before seeing Cagul slumped in a tricycle.
Cagul died at the scene from gunshots to the head.
Police said Cagul was on the drug watchlist of the Batasan Police Station 6. He was arrested in 2017 on drug charges.
Family of 4 held for drugs
In Manila, a family of four was apprehended during a raid on a suspected drug den in Punta, Sta. Ana.
Rowel Mijares was nabbed along with his children Justine, 21, Joshua, 19, and Jonaliza, 18, by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Manila Police District.
Also arrested with the Mijareses were Gilbert Dioso, 42, and Melvin Nicanor, 28.
In Pasay, around P2 million worth of drugs were seized in a series of anti-narcotics operations this week.
Two other drug suspects – Arnold Rodriguez and Maria Rovino – were collared in Caloocan City for alleged shabu possession.
