New PNP directorial staff chief named
MANILA, Philippines — A former director of the Western Visayas police was promoted as chief of the directorial staff of the Philippine National Police.
PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa designated Maj. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne Binag to the fourth highest position in the PNP.
“He will supervise and synchronize the functions of the PNP directorial staff offices in support of the operations of police regional offices and national support units,” Gamboa told a press briefing yesterday.
Binag, a member of Philippine Military Academy Hinirang Class of 1987, served as police director of Central Visayas for a year before he was named head of the Western Visayas police.
Prior to his new appointment, Binag headed the Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management (DICTM).
Brig. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, former commander of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will replace Binag at the DICTM.
Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz was appointed HPG director.
Meanwhile, Gamboa said commanders of police regional offices and national support units have obtained passing grades in their performance, the lowest with a grade of 75.13 percent.
The new PNP chief said the senior officials did well in their assignments in the past three months.
“In the succeeding months, itaas natin ng kaunti ‘yung passing rate so that everybody will make an effort para taasan ‘yung grado nila,” he said.
