MANILA, Philippines — Five Chinese men were arrested in Makati City on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) employee.

Teng Sheng, 32, Li Jing Zhang, 29, Huang Yu Long, 22, Zhao Shi Guang, 28, and Jiang Wei were arrested during a raid on a dormitory along Camino street in Guadalupe at around 7:30 p.m., hours after they reportedly kidnapped Taiwanese Shih Su Yuan, 36, at around 1 p.m.

Police officers said Shih, who was rescued during the operation, was tortured and physically abused by his captors as they demanded ransom from Shih’s relatives abroad.

Shih is being treated at the Philippine National Police General Hospital.
