Japanese tourist drowns while snorkeling in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines — A Japanese tourist drowned while snorkeling off the coast of Oslob, Cebu yesterday.

Marinubo Kuriyama, 52, was declared dead on arrival at the Oslob District Hospital, according to Capt. Armand Balilo, Philippine Coast Guard  (PCG) spokesman.

Balilo said Kuriyama spit blood and experienced difficulty in breathing.

He said PCG rescue team members tried to revive Kuriyama before the tourist was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Balilo said it has yet to be determined if the snorkeling guide of the victim, Airi Hemeno, would be held liable for the incident.”We have to investigate. Hindi pa conclusive,” Balilo said.
