2 dead in Calabarzon shootings
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Philippines – Two persons, including a dismissed police officer, were killed in a string of shootings in Calabarzon over the weekend.
Sherwin Abadier, 40, a former police officer, was sitting in front of his meat stall at the public market in Lumban, Laguna while waiting for customers, when a lone assailant shot him several times on Saturday morning.
The assailant, wearing a mask, escaped, heading toward the town proper.
Authorities said Abadier, who had gone absent without official leave from service, was dismissed from the police force. He was also charged in drug cases and an administrative case involving serious grave misconduct.
Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said the shooting was linked to the Manambit drug group.
Meanwhile, Nestor Magpantay was shot dead by a lone gunman in Calamba City, Laguna at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was walking in Barangay Uno when the suspect approached him. Armed with a handgun of unknown caliber, the assailant shot Magpantay several times, killing him on the spot.
Recently, four persons, including a company manager and a murder witness, were killed in separate shootings in Cavite and Batangas.
