Cop dies after shootout with robbers
MANILA, Philippines — The policeman who was wounded in a gunfight with robbers in Sta. Cruz, Manila last week died in a hospital yesterday afternoon.
Cpl. Edgil Bombase, assigned with the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3, died at past 3 p.m. at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center where he had been confined since Wednesday.
MPD Station 3 commander Lt. Col. Reynaldo Magdaluyo said Bombase’s left kidney had to be removed while his liver and diaphragm were badly damaged.
Bombase will be given a posthumous commendation for his bravery.
The policeman along with his colleagues, Corporals Alvin Galicia and Micah David Patricio, figured in a firefight with suspected robbers Rodel Vicente and Antonio Yap at the corner of T. Mapua and Antipolo streets.
Bombase was wounded after he was fired upon by the suspects. Galicia and Patricio retaliated, killing Vicente.
Yap was shot dead by members of the Alvarez police community precinct during a follow-up operation.
