MANILA, Philippines —The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is set to hire 100 senior citizens living in Pasay as ushers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport

(NAIA).

MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said the seniors will deployed within this month as part of a memorandum of agreement signed by himself, Ang Probinsiyano party-list Rep. Ronnie Ong, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Mayor Emi Calixto and a senior citizens’ group.

Ong has forged a partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment to provide jobs for senior citizens under the DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD.

“We’ve been focusing so much on giving discounts and other perks but I also believe that our senior citizens should continue to have economic opportunities not just to have extra money but to also feel that they are still contributing to our society,” Ong said.

Similar programs were launched at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines-Diliman, Philippine Children’s Medical Center and the National Bureau of Investigation.

The salaries of the senior workers shall be based on the minimum salary in each region.
