Legazpi airport resumes operations

MANILA, Philippines — Legazpi Airport, which was damaged at the height of Typhoon Tisoy, has resumed operations.

A C295 Philippine Air Force aircraft landed at the airport yesterday morning even as inspection by engineers of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines were ongoing.

However, control tower officials said the airport’s runway threshold identification light is not yet operational.

Cebu Pacific flights to and from Manila and Legazpi remained cancelled yesterday.

Authorities said operations at the airport today would be based only on visual meteorological conditions.

The airports in Masbate, Catarman and Busuanga, which were also affected by the typhoon, started normal operations.

In Manila, Philippine Airlines (PAL) flights from Hong Kong, New York, Phnom Penh and South Korea were cancelled yesterday.

Also cancelled were PAL flights from Bali, Jakarta, Melbourne, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo as well as domestic flights to Cebu, General Santos, Davao, Puerto Princesa, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Tacloban, Bacolod, Butuan, Zamboanga, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Roxas and Ozamiz.

CebGo flights to and from Manila and Naga were also cancelled.
