Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — At least 8,000 kilos of fossilized giant clams valued at around P48 million were seized at a checkpoint in Barangay Lumbia in this city on Tuesday.

The driver and passengers of a truck, where the fossilized clams were found, were arrested and charged with violation of the Philippine Fisheries Code.

Lt. Col. Alexy Sonido of the City Mobile Force Company said the suspects failed to present the necessary documents for the transport of their cargo.

Sonido said the suspects were supposed to bring the clams to a buyer in Initao, Misamis Oriental.
