MANILA, Philippines — Eleven crewmembers and passengers were rescued from a motor boat that capsized in the waters off San Jose, Siquijor on Saturday.
Aside from the four passengers and seven crewmembers, the boat was carrying eight drums of diesel and 22 empty fuel drums when it sank near Barangay Cangmunag.
The boat came from Dipolog City and was headed to Masbate when it encountered big waves brought by bad weather condition, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
The passengers and crewmembers, who were reported to be in good physical condition, were immediately given medical assistance.
The drums of diesel were recovered and brought to the barangay hall of Cangmunag for safekeeping.
The PCG is monitoring the area for a possible oil spill.
