8 dead, 10 injured in CamSur bus-van collision
LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines — Eight people died and 10 others were injured when a bus bound for Manila collided with a UV Express van along Maharlika highway in Pamplona, Camarines Sur on Wednesday night.
Capt. Clarence Vincent Bacruya, Pamplona police chief, identified six of the fatalities as van driver Armani Calpe and his passengers Jopet Bernal, Mark Dave Doctor, May Acdan, Irene Abas and Josephine Golgota.
Those injured were brought to nearby hospitals.
Citing an initial investigation report, Bacruya said a Manila-bound JRV bus driven by Leonardo Camu hit the van in the opposite lane while overtaking a tricycle in Barangay San Vicente.
The bus also reportedly rear-ended the tricycle. The three occupants of the tricycle were among those injured.
Bacruya said Camu surrendered to the police in Libmanan town, also in Camarines Sur.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries are being readied against the bus driver.
