Bong Go visits, aids Boracay fire victims
Sen. Christopher Bong Go mingles with fire victims in Sitio Ambulong, Barangay Manocmanoc in Boracay yesterday.

MANLA, Philippines —Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go visited Boracay yesterday and distributed food items and financial assistance to victims of a fire that hit a residential area in Sitio Ambulong, Barangay Manocmanoc last week.

“Pumupunta ako sa mga nasunugan kasi nais kong mag-iwan ng ngiti sa oras ng kanilang pagdadalamhati. Gusto ko marinig ang kanilang hinaing at mabigyan ng solusyon ang pang-araw araw nilang problema,” Go said.

Representatives of govenrment agencies joined the senator in his visit to provide additional assistance to the victims.

Go said he coordinated with the National Housing Authority on possible relocation sites for those who lost their homes.

He said the Department of Trade and Industry would provide livelihood assistance to eligible victims.

Go said he would also help those whose school uniforms and supplies were destroyed in the fire.

At least 284 houses were destroyed and 863 families were affected in the fire, the second to hit the island in less than two weeks.

Go urged those who need medical assistance to avail themselves of the services at Malasakit Centers.

He said a Malasakit Center would be opened at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo, Aklan. Another center will be launched at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City, Capiz.

Iloilo City also has a Malasakit Center at the Western Visayas Medical Center.

“Handa na po ang Malasakit Center sa Aklan. May inaayos na lamang po. Babalik po ako rito para sa launching,” he said.
