Ormoc PUV drivers pass drug tests

Lalaine Jimenea - The Philippine Star

ORMOC CITY, Philippines — More than 100 drivers of public utility vehicles in this city tested negative for drug use during random drug tests conducted yesterday.

“I am very pleased with the result... I’m proud that there will be even higher confidence from our riding public knowing that 111 (drivers) are drug-free,” Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez said.

Gomez said the results of the tests validate Ormoc’s standing as one of the safest cities in the country.

Ormoc was declared the first drug-free city in Eastern Visayas in 2016. It was declared the safest city in 2017 and 2018 by the Philippine National Police.

Col. Armel Gongona, city police chief, said 48 jeepney, 11 bus and 52 van drivers underwent drug tests administered by personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Highway Patrol Group and local police.
