Unexploded 500-pound bomb detonated in Marawi

Lino De La Cruz - The Philippine Star

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — Another 500-pound unexploded bomb dropped by Air Force jets at the height of the Marawi siege in 2017 was detonated over the weekend.

Ordnance and explosives team personnel of the Army’s 5th Engineering Battalion said a 40-minute siren alerted residents around Lake Lanao before the bomb was detonated.

The military said the explosive was the 10th 500-pound unexploded bomb found in the city.

Around 500 pieces of assorted bombs have yet to be recovered.

Task Force Bangon Marawi chief Roberto del Rosario had earlier said the most affected area is expected to be cleared of bombs within this month.
