‘Red team’ deployed vs cops playing golf

MANILA, Philippines — A police team has been deployed in Metro Manila to run after lawmen playing golf and those involved in extortion and other money-making schemes, an official said yesterday.

Called the “Red team,” the police officers would patrol the streets of Metro Manila on motorcycles.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas said the team would not make arrests.

“They would only gather evidence so the erring policemen would be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

The move, Sinas said, aims to reform the 20,000 members of the NCRPO.
