TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — At least 50 luxury vehicles were donated by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as well as the municipal government and barangays in Sta. Ana, Cagayan on Monday.
The Cagayan police received 11 mini-wagons, three Hummers, a Pajero, a Cayenne, a Hyundai Grandia and a Wrangler jeep. The AFP got seven Hummers.
The Sta. Ana local government unit (LGU) got two Hummers, four Starex vans and two Toyota cars. Seventeen barangays each received a Starex van while one opted for a Honda Fit.
CEZA administrator Raul Lambino said the agency would donate 350 other vehicles to national agencies and LGUs in Cagayan Valley and nearby regions.
Last year, President Duterte witnessed the destruction of 14 luxury vehicles aside from P297 million worth of high-end cars and motorcycles at Port Irene.
Duterte advised CEZA officials to spare the Hummers for the police and military and donate the other vehicles to local government units and government agencies.
CEZA officials said the cars were part of the 847 smuggled vehicles that arrived at the international port in 2013 and 2014.
