NPA camp seized in Negros

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas were believed killed after Army troopers seized a rebel camp in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

A 30-minute firefight ensued between the guerrillas and the pursuing Army troopers in Sitio Bugo, Barangay Buenavista after the military discovered the camp in nearby Sitio Ulitao in the same village, according to Brig. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, chief of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade. 

The troopers recovered a backpack, hammock, medicine, wallet, several pairs of rain boots and rubber shoes, ammunition and bomb paraphernalia at the camp.

Arevalo said the camp could accommodate two platoons of rebels.
