Armyworms hit Negros corn fields

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Armyworms have invaded corn fields in four areas in Negros Occidental.

Provincial agriculturist Japhet Masculino said the pest damaged corn fields in Pontevedra and La Castellana towns as well as in the cities of San Carlos and La Carlota.

Masculino said the affected areas were sprayed with insecticide, but the situation has yet to be contained.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson issued an executive order directing a provincial coordinating task force to control the spread of the pest in affected areas and minimize damage to crops.
