PNPA now under PNP supervision
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday assumed supervision over the country’s premier training institution for police commissioned officers.
PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde accepted the transfer of supervision of the Phililippne National Police Academy (PNPA) from the Philippine Public Safety College during simple rites at Camp Mariano Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.
National Police Commission vice chairman Rogelio Casurao said the turnover was approved by President Duterte in April.
The PNP now has control over the police training institution and its 1,150 cadets.
The PNPA is still allowed to accommodate cadets of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Bureau of Fire Protection during the five-year transition period.
Casurao asked the PNP to ensure that cases of hazing and other forms of maltreatment will no longer happen at the PNPA.
Albayalde said finger-pointing when an incident involving PNPA cadets happens would be a thing of the past.
“It’s time that we take full responsibility of the training of our police officers to effectively address dysfunctions and to instill discipline among future law enforcers of the country,” he said.
