MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of participants from government agencies, youth groups and socio-civic organizations yesterday joined the annual Alay Lakad at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
The Alay Lakad Foundation Inc. said 200,000 people participated in the event.
The event aims to raise P600,000 to help at least 50,000 out-of-school youth, according to organizers.
The Manila Police District closed the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to P. Ocampo for the event.
Officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines presented donation checks to the organization.
Among those who were present in the event were Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Danilo Lim, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority director general Isidro Lapeña and Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista.
The walk coincided with the MPD’s “Trilogy Leg” fun run.
Launched during the martial law days, Alay Lakad has helped closed to 100,000 out-of-school youth and scholars nationwide.
