ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Government troopers arrested three Maute militants in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, said three rifles and a handgun were recovered from Janla, 20, and Arapat, 22, both surnamed Tangolo, and Kamarudin Sultan, 20.
Brawner said soldiers of the 49th and 82nd Infantry Battalions launched the operation after receiving information from villagers that the militants were spotted in Barangay Paridi.
“We are glad that after the Marawi siege and a series of encounter with local terrorist groups, we receive reports from the communities regarding our enemies or the presence of armed groups,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, commander of the First Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan, assured the public that the campaign against terrrorists would continue to be relentless.
