Plebiscite to ratify renaming of Compostela Valley set

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set a plebiscite to ratify the law to rename the province of Compostela Valley to Davao de Oro.

The poll body set the plebiscite on Dec. 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Last January, Republic Act 11297 was passed into law to rename Compostela Valley.

Carrying of firearms and deadly weapons in public places will be prohibited during the plebiscite period from Nov. 7 to Dec. 14, according to the Comelec.

Comelec records show that there are 462,942 registered voters in Compostela Valley.
