MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has signed a law allowing the University of the Philippines (UP) to sell 22 hectares of land in Barangay Krus na Ligas at a fair market price to the Quezon City government.
Republic Act 11454 was signed on Aug. 30 and released to the media yesterday. The new law amended RA 9500, the UP Charter of 2008.
“The new law was proposed by the Quezon City government to the House of Representatives to address the problems of the residents of Krus na Ligas,” UP vice president for public affairs Elena Pernia said.
RA 11454 mandates the creation of a technical working group that shall be in charge of determining who among the existing residents in the area are qualified to subsequently buy the property from the city government.
The law states that ownership would not be transferred to the city government until UP has been fully paid. – Janvic Mateo
