MANILA, Philippines — More than 400 minors were rounded up on the first night of the stricter implementation of the curfew in Manila.

Manila Police District (MPD) director Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said 435 “children at risk” were rescued in the “all-out” implementation of Ordinance 8547 from 10 p.m. Monday up to 4 a.m. yesterday.

Ordinance 8547 sets the curfew hours while Ordinance 8243, which Mayor Isko Moreno signed on Monday, imposes fines for parents of curfew violators.

Parents and guardians rushed to the Raxabago police station after more than 100 minors were rounded up in Tondo.

Station commander Lt. Col. Reynaldo Magdaluyo said the parents gave various alibis – some said they sent their children on an errand while others said their children were playing games in internet shops.

Moreno signed Ordinance 8243 the morning after witnessing several street children rioting and huffing model airplane glue fumes in Delpan.
