MANILA, Philippines — The self-confessed gunman in the killing of businessman Dominic Sytin pleaded guilty during his arraignment at the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 72 yesterday.
Edgardo Luib’s guilty plea would help strengthen the evidence of the prosecution, Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera said.
Luib tagged Dominic’s brother Dennis as the mastermind. He said Dennis hired him to kill Dominic in November last year in exchange for P1 million, but was paid only P50,000.
Navera said the prosecution panel is not considering placing Luib under the witness protection program despite his confession.
The court had earlier issued warrants of arrest against Dennis and his alleged cohort and Dominic’s former employee Ryan Rementilla, alias Oliver Fuentes. The two remain at large.
Luib was arrested in Batangas on March 5 based on a warrant for the murder of journalist Mae Magsino and Councilor Michael Caringal of Bauan, Batangas. – Bebot Sison
