MANILA, Philippines — Police gunned down a 45-year-old man who ran amuck and stabbed dead his stepson and another victim in Las Piñas City yesterday afternoon.

Renan Fulgencio, a former security guard, died from multiple gunshots to the body.

Fulgencio’s stepson Reniel Nonato, 16, and Dan Cecil Bilog, 35, suffered severe stab wounds and died before reaching the hospital.

In a radio interview, city police chief Col. Simnar Gran said they initially received a report about a hostage-taking incident along Balikatan street in Barangay BF International at around 2 p.m.

Prior to the incident, probers said Fulgencio went on a drinking session with his friends.

When the suspect returned home, Fulgencio reportedly grabbed two knives and stabbed Bilog, who was about to deliver a liquefied petroleum gas tank in the area.

After attacking Bilog, witnesses said Fulgencio rushed to Nonato’s room and stabbed him repeatedly.

Police said they fired at the suspect after he tried to assault responding lawmen.

Investigators said they were looking into jealousy as a possible reason why Fulgencio ran amuck.
