Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was wounded after he was shot by an armed suspect during an anti-crime drive in Baseco Compound, Manila Friday night.

Cpl. Edmar Fesway is recovering from a chest wound in a hospital, Manila Police District director Brig. General Vicente Danao Jr. said yesterday.

Police flagged down a tricycle that had two men, who turned out to be armed, as passengers along 2nd street on Friday night.

Fesway was shot when he peered into the tricycle ridden by the suspect.

A firefight erupted between the suspects and the police. One suspect was killed while the other escaped.

Police recovered two .45 caliber firearms, ammunition and a bag containing drug paraphernalia.

Danao said the MPD would intensify its clearing operations in Baseco Compound as ordered by Mayor Isko Moreno.
