Son of ex-Zambo vice mayor nabbed for drugs

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An anti-drug enforcement unit arrested the son of a former vice mayor of this city during a buy-bust operation Thursday and seized some P100,000 worth of shabu, an official said.

Police Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, director of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), identified the suspect as businessman Roberto Yanga Ko, 51, who is the son of former Zamboanga City vice mayor Roberto Ko.

Quidilla said operatives of the Zamboanga City Police Station 7 drug enforcement unit arrested Ko during the buy bust operation along Nuñez Extension Street, Barangay Camino Nuevo.

The police recovered several plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P100,000 and marked money.

Quidilla said four others, including a former police officer, were also arrested on the same day in three separate buy-bust operations in this city and recovered more than P24,000 worth of shabu.

Quidilla said the relentless operation is part of the intensive fight against illegal drugs in Zamboanga peninsula.
