MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has warned the public against enrolling at a college in Cebu that continues to operate without a permit from the government.

In an advisory issued yesterday, CHED chairman J. Prospero de Vera III said the Mandaue City College (MCC) in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City offers degree programs that are not recognized by the commission.

He said the college is not affiliated with the MCC at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex in Centro, a local state university recently included on the list of higher education institutions covered by the free higher education program.

De Vera said the CHED issued a closure order against MCC in Basak on Dec. 3, 2010. The Court of Appeals affirmed a ruling of a local court that sided with the CHED.

He advised students of MCC Basak to transfer to any CHED-recognized institutions.

De Vera said the CHED has been weeding out non-compliant higher education institutions.

“This initiative has resulted in the closure and phase-out of 779 non-compliant or those with deficient programs since 2010,” he said.
