Tornado hits Northern Samar town

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Twenty families were left homeless after a tornado destroyed 11 houses and a public market in Lavesares, Northern Samar on Saturday morning.

No one was reported  injured or killed in the incident that occurred at around 9:30 a.m. in the coastal villages of Lobas, Cataogan and San Miguel.

Some residents fled for safety and returned home shortly after, according to Allen Berbon, provincial information officer.

The tornado, which occurred amid a heavy downpour, disrupted power supply and communications signal in some villages.
