Drenched weekend for Metro Manila: Monsoon rains, floods expected
MANILA, Philippines — Rains will be pouring over the Philippines' capital region this weekend as the southwest monsoon continues to affect the western section of Luzon island.
The monsoon rains are coupled with moderate winds from the southwest in Metro Manila on Saturday, state weather bureau PAGASA's regional forecast shows.
Weather forecasting company Accuweather also sees mostly cloudy skies with heavy showers in the metro on Saturday, while breezy morning thunderstorms and periods of rain will mark Sunday.
Filipinos were also warned of floods this weekend that might affect traffic and business operations in the crowded capital.
The Metro Manila Development Authority, which continues to monitor road disruptions, reported flooded parts on main thoroughfare EDSA.
As of 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, Ortigas Center in front of the overseas employment office and the northbound part at Guadalupe are flooded, but the avenue continues to be passable to vehicles.
Makati City. Filipinos on Twitter also reported flooded portions of Dela Rosa Street near Chino Roces, as well as Malugay Street between Mayapis and Chino Roces on Saturday morning.
Manila City. Motorists will also encounter gutter-deep flood on Fugoso, Bambang, España Avenue cor Vicente Cruz, Pablo Ocampo cor Arellano and Altura Street in front of the Altura market.
The capital region's neighboring provinces such as Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Quezon, meanwhile, are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
