Seek police help, lawyers with death threats told
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde yesterday urged lawyers who are receiving death threats to seek police assistance.
“Kung meron po silang nakikita o natatanggap na mga death threats sabihin kaagad sa ating kapulisan,” Albayalde told reporters on the sidelines of a demolition of a police community precinct in San Juan City.
He said threats documented on police blotter would help probers identify the perpetrators.
“Kung merong silang pinaghihinalaan na tao, we can conduct profiling,” Albayalde said.
Two lawyers were killed in Bukidnon and Negros Oriental recently.
Nicolas Gomez Jr., 67, was about to enter a bakeshop in Barangay Poblacion, Valencia City when he was shot by motorcycle-riding men on Sunday.
Col. Roel Lami-ing, Bukidnon police chief, said they have several persons of interest in the case, but refused to give details.
Lami-ing had earlier said probers are looking at a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
“We are still conducting a case buildup,” he said.
Last week, lawyer Anthony Trinidad was shot dead after attending a hearing in Guihulngan City.
