Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A lawyer was gunned down in Valencia City, Bukidnon on Sunday.

Police said Nicolas Gomez Jr., 67, had just alighted from his Ford F150 and was about to enter a bakeshop in Barangay Poblacion when he was shot by motorcycle-riding men wearing masks and jackets at around 6:30 p.m. He was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Gomez, a resident of Quezon City, was in Bukidnon to attend a court hearing in Malaybalay City set yesterday.

Col. Roel Lami-ing, Bukidnon police chief, said probers are looking at a land dispute as the motive for the killing.

“We received information about a land conflict involving the lawyer’s property in Valencia,” Lami-ing said. – Gerry Lee Gorit
