Joy Belmonte lauds creation of nationall body for elderly

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has welcomed the passage of a law establishing the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).

In a statement on Saturday, Belmonte said the creation of the NCSC would complement the efforts of the city government in providing support for the elderly.

“One of the priorities of my administration is the continuing support for senior citizens as a recognition of their contributions to the development of the city,” she said.

“Part of my 14-point agenda is to bring closer to the elderly the services of the local government through our plan to establish mini city halls in every district of Quezon City. Through this, we will be able to respond quickly to the needs of senior citizens,” Belmonte added.

President Duterte signed the NCSC Act into law last week.

The NCSC will replace the National Coordinating Council and Monitoring Board, and provides for the establishment of community-based health, rehabilitation as well as educational and socio-economic programs for senior citizens.
