Quake rocks Surigao del Norte
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-4.5 earthquake rocked Burgos town in Surigao del Norte yesterday, a day after a strong tremor injured scores of people in the neighboring province of Surigao del Sur.
The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 8:16 a.m., was located 29 kilometers northwest of Burgos, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 2 in Borongan City, Eastern Samar. It was not expected to cause damage or generate aftershocks.
State seismologists said yesterday’s quake was not related to the magnitude-5.5 tremor that injured 51 people in Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning.
